Date: Monday December 24th 2007

Wind: SW 2-3

Visibility: Good

Sea state: Slight

Time of launch: 1500hrs

Time of return: 1555hrs

Boats launched: ALB and ILB

Reason: Humber Coastguard requested the immediate launch of Amble Lifeboat and Amble ILB, after they received reports of two cars that had been cut off by the incoming tide in the Alnmouth area with initial reports confirming the occupants of the cars included three young children. Two Coastguards team from Amble and one from Boulmer were also tasked to attend the scene. Being well into the Alnmouth Estuary, only the ILB and Coastguard teams were able to get close to the vehicles, where it became apparent that no one was in any immediate danger with all the occupants being on dry land. They would simply have to await the ebbing tide going out before the cars could be recovered. One of the Coastguard Teams took the children to the Coastguard Station to get them out of the cold December evening while they waited on the tide going out, with the remaining Coastguards staying with the vehicles until it was safe to recover them. As no further assistance was required from the Lifeboats, both boats were released from scene and returned to station where they were refuelled and made ready for service again.
