Date: Wednesday 20th June 2012

Wind: Nil
Visibility: Good
Sea state: Calm
Time of launch: 0350hrs
Time of return: 0550hrs

Boats launched: ALB + ILB

Reason: HM Coastguard requested the launch of the Amble
lifeboats when it became known that a yacht was stranded with no propulsion 5 miles
east of Amble Harbour.

Both lifeboats were launched as the initial reports were that the pleasure yacht ‘Now’
which was en route to Eyemouth from Hartlepool with 2 persons on board may have
been taking on water. With this in mind it was decided that the smaller, faster ‘D’
class lifeboat Mildred Holcroft should also proceed to the scene making best possible
speed as well as the All-weather Lifeboat The Four Boys.

Upon arrival at the scene, the inshore lifeboat placed a crewmember on board to
assist the crew and check for water ingress. The yacht was becalmed due to a water
pump failure that had rendered her engine inoperable. Once it was established that
there was no apparent water ingress and the yacht was safe to be towed, a line was
rigged to The Four Boys and she was towed back to the safety of Amble Harbour.

Once there, she was taken to Amble Marina and berthed safely and both Lifeboats
were then re-fuelled and made ready for service once again.
