Boats launched: ALB + ILB

Reason for launch: Both Amble Lifeboat and Amble ILB were requested for an immediate launch after reports were received of two kayakers in the water in difficulty near Amble Harbour.

Local fishing vesesl ‘VENTURE’ spotted the casualties and was able to stand by to direct the Lifeboats straight to them. The ILB was on scene first and recovered both the casualties, who very cold and in the early stages of hypothermia, before transferring them to the ALB. Neither casualty was wearing a lifejacket or any form of PPE.

Due to the severity of the call, Rescue Seaking 131 from RAF Boulmer had also been tasked and arrived on scene where it was decided to winch the casualties direct to Wansbeck Hospital.

Once the casualties were on their way to hospital, the kayaks were recovered by the Lifeboats beore they returned back to station.
