Reason for launch: Amble RNLI volunteers launched the inshore lifeboat The Mildred Holcroft to assist a local small fishing boat that had run aground within the harbour waters.
The fishing boat Joanne had run aground on a sand bank close to the old pier at the north end of Amble harbour during low water. The coastguard was notified and the Amble ILB was requested to assist. The Mildred Holcroft arrived on scene within minutes of the request to help the stricken vessel.
The two people on board the Joanne who were unhurt during the incident. The boat was then sucessfully towed off the sand bank and escorted back to the owners berth within Amble harbour.
RNLI volunteer Helmsman Paul Stewart was pleased that nobody was hurt in this incident and said ‘that he would like to remind boat users of all types to exercise caution when handling a boat within a harbour’.
