Reason: Humber Coastguard requested the immediate launch of Amble Lifeboat and Amble ILB after the yacht “Wildlife”, with 3 persons on board, issued a ‘MAYDAY’ call, stating they had grounded on rocks to the South of Amble. With the tide falling, strong winds and choppy seas it was imperative the Lifeboats were on scene as fast as they could get there.
With the ILB arriving on scene first, a crew man was put on board the yacht to asses the damage and the persons on board. With no-one needing any first aid and the yacht seemingly intact, the skipper of the yacht accepted a tow from Amble Lifeboat as soon as she arrived on scene, to see if he could be pulled into deeper water.
Slowly the yacht was pulled into deeper water until she re-floated, at which point a crew man from the ALB was then transferred to the yacht, with the salvage pump, in case any damage sustained lead to her taking on water. With only a slight amount of water being taken onboard, the yacht was then towed into Amble Marina, where she was moored until there was enough water for her to be lifted out at Amble Boatyard to be inspected.
Coxswain David Bell reported that due to weather conditions, 3 lives were undoubtedly saved by the Lifeboats.

With no one in trouble, Amble ILB launched and located the life raft just North of Amble Harbour. Once recovered the raft they returned to station and were made ready for service.

Reason: Humber Coastguard requested the launch of both Amble Lifeboats to the MFV Venture who had suffered engine problems and was being towed into Amble by the MFV Orcadian Mist. However, when outside the harbour, the Orcadian Mist became entangled in pot tows and fouled his own propeller, the ILB reached the casualties first and assessed the situation.
The ALB arrived on scene shortly after and took the MFV Venture under tow and headed back into Amble while the ILB stood by the Orcadian Mist. With the Venture safe alongside the Quay the ALB returned to the Orcadian Mist and took them under tow and headed back into Amble. With both casualties safe alongside the Quay, both Amble Lifeboats returned back to station refuelled and made ready for service.

Reason: Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Amble Lifeboat to assist a 28ft pleasure craft broken down 1/2 a mile North of Boulmer 30 yds off the shore. The casualty had managed to put his anchor away to stop them drifting further on to the rocks as they were in about 3 ft of water. Once on scene the ALB asked for the Amble ILB to be launched to assist with the casualty, in the mean time due to a big ebbing tide the ALB tried to get close enough in so they could pass the tow rope to the casualty in doing this the lifeboat touched the rocky bottom two or three times. The ILB arrived onscene 8 minutes after being launched just as the ALB pulled the casualty clear of the rocks, with the casualty checked and no water ingress they were towed back into Amble with the ILB in attendance. Once in the Harbour the ILB took over the tow and towed the casualty up river to his mooring. Both boats returned to station refuelled and made ready for service.

Reason: Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Amble Lifeboat after a 27 ft angling boat reported engine failure 2.5 miles North of Amble. On reaching the vessel it was found the skipper had managed to restart the engine so the ALB started to escorted the vessel back to Amble. After about 1/2 a mile the casualty’s engine stopped again, a tow was rigged and the lifeboat towed them into Amble, on reaching the harbour a decision was made to launch the ILB to take the casualty up river to there moorings as this would be a lot safer due to all the mooring buoys and vessels. The ILB took over the tow of the casualty to put it on its moorings and the ALB returned back to station ahortly followed by the ILB.

Wind: W 2-3
Visibility: Good
Sea state: Slight
Time of launch: 1930hrs
Time of return: 2035hrs
Boats launched: ILB (twice)
Reason: The volunteer crew members were paged at 1930hrs and launched the fast-response ILB to the report of persons in the water between Amble Yacht Club and the North Pier. Once on scene it was apparent the 3 casualties had managed to get themselves ashore with the assistance of members of the public.
Whilst ensuring the casualties needed no further assistance and putting them in the care of Amble Coastguard, the ILB was re-tasked to the ice plant area of the harbour where a further 3 persons were reported to be in difficulty in the water. Again, once on scene it was found that the father and two children had swam across from the North side and needed no help. Call was put down to a false alarm with good intent.
Amble ILB then returned to station where she was refuelled and made ready for service.
